Giger had already come up with such works as Astro-eunuchs (1967) by that time, and that could have been enough to inspire some language of seemingly abstract alien forms as well of this style. 

Although this illustration doesn't appear to have much in common with Christiane's extra-terrestrial, one or two ideas might have been incorporated because it came out around the same time as Giger's "Mother with Child" that would be work number 72..

Perhaps here the folded leg become the shoulder fin like form and the oval on the leg become becomes the opening in the pipe
