a) The idea here would be that Arthur C Clarke and Stanley Kubrick looked at the adventures of Tintin; Red Rackham's treasure for loose inspiration, without trying to copy the Tintin story as such

b.ii) References the discovery of the Sir Francis Haddock carving on the island in "The Adventures of Tintin and Red Rackham's Treasure. " which also connects with the apes making use of human technology in the Tintin story

 

c) Man-apes and the shift in technology

c.i) The man-ape "Moonwatcher" who suddenly recieves the basic inspiration for technology from the Monolith, from 2001 A Space Odyssey (Film released April 2, 1968)

 

 

c.ii) As the man ape throws the bone into the air, it seems to become a nuclear missile platform

 

 

 

c.iii) References monkeys with gun scene from The Adventures of Tintin and Red Rackham's treasure?

The monkeys get hold of a rifle and suddenly fire it before dropping it.

 

 

d) Monolith on the moon

d.i) The Monolith on the moon from 2001 A Space Odyssey  (Film released April 2, 1968)

d.ii) References the scene of the discovery wreck of the Unicorn from The Adventures of Tintin and Red Rackham's Treasure?

 

Also, in 2001 A Space Odyssey, a transmission from the monolith gives the explorers the next location to take their exploration. and so in The Adventures of Tintin and Red Rackham's Treasure, a box with papers leads Tintin and his friends to Marlinspike. 

d.iii) Beforehand, Kubrick looked at the idea of a tetrahedral pyramid form.

 

e) Ships

The characters travel in Captain Haddock's ship curiously named The Sirius, and although this has nothing to do with any space ship names in 2001 A Space Odyssey, it could kick off the idea in the mind of connecting it with outer space, and we have a main space ship of the film named Discovery One which as a name is completely unrelated

 

 

 

 

 

f) The Eva Pod

f.i) In Tintin and Red Rackham's treasure. We have Professor Calculus shark minisub as an item of interest, but it's presence is soon followed by an actual shark that attacks Tintin.

f.iii) The design of the EVA pod, comes across to me as being dimly related to Dali's "Atmospheric Skull Sodomizing a Piano" from 1934 as a general overview about how he wanted the exterior and a stretched out eye socket becomes the front window and the teeth become the panels beneath the window

 

 

f.iv) If Stanley Kubrick had gone with the idea of Marlinspike's Driveway from The Adventures of Tintin and Red Rackham's Treasure as being the starting point for the journey through the stargate for 2001 A Space Odyssey, then the idea comes to me that he went with the idea that the white Bubble Car shown in the scene of the Car Rally in the front drive of Marlinspike from The Adventures of Tintin and The Red Sea Sharks as a basis for his EVA pod alongside the warped skull from Dali's Atmospheric Skull Sodomizing A Piano

 

The Bubble car appears to be something that a number of well known artists found themselves wanting to play around with in different ways in artwork not related to Tintin, as if they wanted to have their take on what they could do with it, Often it would be transformed it in some crazy headgear 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

g) Death of Frank Poole

g.i) Frank Poole has his oxygen hose cut by HAL in 2001 A Space Odyssey
(Film released April 2, 1968)

g.ii) References a scene in Tintin and Red Rackham's Treasure where innocentl Thompson and Thomson / Dupont and Dupond take an air pumping break stopping the airsupply for Tintin who is deep sea diving. 

 

It's perhaps their buffoonery along with Professor Calculus abstractness that become translated into the actions of HAL9000

 

 

 

 

 

 

g.iii) Shortly afterwards, a shark appears in the water and attacks Tintin. 

 

One can just blur the shark minisub and the shark together as one thing, where at one moment it's a vehicle for friendly use and the next it's out to destroy

h.ii) References The House For Sale scene in House For Sale sign from "The Adventures of Tintin: Red Rackham's Treasure" story? 

 

Towards the end of the story, Professor Calculus deciphered a fragmented document found in a chest and it seems to mention how the King rewarded Captain Haddock's ancestor with Marlinspike for his services

 

This suddenly synchronises wth Professor Calculus discovery in the newspaper that Marlinspike is up for sale. Professor Calculus will buy it for Captain Haddock.

 

 

The for sale sign near enough becoming the monolith, and so the next scene features Tintin and Captain Haddock walking along the Marlinspike driveway.
