victim of ling-chi method of execution
When Giger went to art school in Zurich, he saw photos that chonicled the torture and eventual death of a man who murdered a Chinese Emperor, and as it is mentioned, they were the ones that that powerfully affected the writer George Batailles, showing the ling-chi executions of someone thought to be named Fu-zhu-li who murdered a Chinese prince, and in this torturous form of execution, the victims are slowly cut in the arms, legs, and chest, until finally they are beheaded or stabbed in the heart.

The Face: The second was a series of photographs a friend showed him in art school in Zurich, chronicling the torture and eventual death of the man who murdered the last Chinese Emperor.  The French writer George Batailles was also powerfully affected by these images.
