A coat and waistcoat worn by Christie (Gary Dourdan) in Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s 1997 science fiction sequel, Alien Resurrection.
Two hundred years after her death, Ellen Ripley
(Sigourney Weaver) awakens to find she has been cloned and begins to
develop alien characteristics. Ripley along with a crew of smugglers
must escape the perilous ship and she must decide who she is in order to
save humanity again.
Christie, Betty captain Frank Elgyn’s (Michael
Wincott) right-hand man, wore his costume in scenes near the beginning
of the film - most notably when the Betty crew tried to outpower Ripley
as she played with a basketball. Christie’s waistcoat appears throughout
the film.
The coat is made from a khaki rigid canvas with
green netting sections under the sleeves and on the front pockets. Large
metal eyelets and wooden toggles feature as decoration, and green cord
loops are attached down the left front side and at the pockets. Made
from a brown textured fabric, the waistcoat features padding with
vertical stitching. The front features two pockets at the bottom and a
curved pocket on the right breast, all edged with brown bias binding.
The back of the waistcoat is slightly longer and curved. This set
includes a sheet with printed images taken on set of Dourdan in the
costume with reference notes at the side of each.
The coat has been intentionally distressed to give
it a rugged appearance with markings and various stitching to repair
tears, while the waistcoat has some paint markings on the back. The set
remains in very good production-used condition.
