And so, my origin for the link to these images was at Propsummit where the person selling the photos posted a message there. http://propsummit.com/viewtopic.php?t=3658
Just wonderful. Many thanks for sharing these. Funny, how they tried to sculpt the ALIEN without Giger in the first place. Looks really goofy.
Well Roger Dicken is a good sculptor, he created the final Facehugger and the final Chestburster following clear specifications but it was a bit unclear for him where he was supposed to go with the adult alien since he was being given conflicting orders about what to do with the creature, but in the end looking at Giger's final work, according to Cinefex 1 p59 it says "Roger Dicken found it ironic that a number of the most bothersome specifications he had been given to work with had been cast aside - most notably the suit was no longer transparent and the head had been scaled down by nearly a half." However the shots of Giger's Alien suit behind the scenes are always marvelous to look at and I don't know what Dickens would have turned out but his smaller alien life forms were amazing. I don't like the thick tale though on the adult alien maquette.
Actually, I'll say that Roger Dicken is an amazing sculptor and had every reason to be one of the best in the business but his own personal aesthetics are slightly different to Giger's so he needed someone else's clear direction where to go, and finally Giger found every reason to be confident about stepping in to create his creature as he saw it.
