The Fifth Element: The final Mondoshawan design by Jacques Rey references Looking-glass-world Armies for Lewis Carroll's "Alice Through The Looking Glass" (published 1871) by John Tenniel ?

leading from

a) Sheridan (Mondoshawan) by Jacques Rey

Mondoshawan/Sheridan suit concept the Fifth Element released in 1997 (actually year the drawing was done was between 1992 and 1996) by Jacques Rey (source of image: "The Story of the Fifth Element" book)

Sheridan (Mondoshawan) by Jacques Rey

b) Looking glass world armies for Alice Through The Looking Glass by John Tenniel (published 1871) (which I think is referenced in the cover of Pink Panther #40

c) The arm becomes the sole of the footwear

d) The knight leading forwards with a curved back becomes the head of the Mondoshawan

e)  The trees become the vertical back appendages

The horshead becomes the side of the plate on the front of the belly area

f) The britches leg of a soldier becomes the upper leg of the Mondoshawan

g) The brithces of another soldier becomes the pattern with nine holes on the front of the belly. The shoes in the distance might becomes the central tear drop shape above and so the soldier's helmet perhaps becomes transformed into another shape to the left of the centra teardrop shape

h) The soldier's britches and the pattern on the front of the Mondoshawan's belly

i) The britches of another solider becomes the space on the belly to the left of the ground light area.

j) The shark points at the front of the helmets of three solderies which I think generally become dark areas that cut away into a wing like form on the totem cannon
