November 17th 2019

i) Added Splice: Early mutant concept drawing (2000) by Vincenzo Natali looking at various things that it seemed to have referenced. This deal with it's possible connection with Salvador Dali's Woman With Head of Roses along with Sergei Eisenstein's "Quand-Même" and the cover of The Pink Panther and the Inspector #19 (1974). The latter two are both in my opinion reintepretations of Dali's painting. Once I had published the realisations about the drawing, Dali and Eisenstein, I had a realisation about how the Pink Panther illustration came into it.

I suppose this is leading towards a general exploration of the evolution of the design that ended up in Ron Cobb's alien monster painting, because there were some interesting turns and I suppose eventually there was another leap involving this art much later. It can be surprising to say the least to experience these connections suddenly being made. No, I haven't been smoking anything.
